Exploring U Tampa

The University of Tampa has officially rebranded as UTampa. This is to separate itself from other UTs and provide name recognition. UTampa was founded in 1931. U Tampa is a medium-sized university with 11,500 students, a record 26 years of enrollment growth, and 1200 international students. Over 90% of U Tampa’s students receive aid. U Tampa is known for its robust business programs, in particular its entrepreneurship program. Other notable programs are international business, finance, marketing, and nursing.

U Tampa is considered moderately selective with its acceptance rate ranging from 25% to 40%. SAT scores typically range above 1200, and ACT scores are above 26. The median GPA of an incoming student is 3.5. The EA (Early Acceptance) rate hovers around 54%.

The University of Tampa began classes on October 5, 1931, as Tampa Junior College. There were 62 local students, tuition was $120 per semester, and there was no building to call home. Almost two years later, on Aug. 2, 1933, UTampa found its permanent home in the old Tampa Bay Hotel and began its journey. The mascot is the Spartan.
