Last week, I took a tour of a few colleges in North Carolina. The one I was most curious about was High Point University. “Wow.” “Amazing, and” Stunning” were all adjectives used to describe this campus in High Point, NC, just outside of Greensboro. HPU started as High Point College in 1924. It began as a joint venture between the city of High Point and the Methodist Church. Today, Hih Point has 6,335 students, and the university is steadily growing, with pharmacy and law schools to be added to the numerous programs offered to students.
One of the many things that sets High Point apart is its claim to be the “premier life skills university.” Your success is High Point’s success and mission from the moment you are enrolled. High Point believes you begin your professional career the moment you step foot on campus, and they are there to see you thrive. Each student is provided a Success Coach, a Career Development Coach, and an academic advisor, all ensuring students have the resources available to maximize success. High Point University is known for its academic excellence, experiential learning opportunities, and commitment to holistic education. Since 2005, 90 new buildings have been built, acquired, or are under construction on the HPU campus – including state-of-the-art academic schools, student centers, residence halls, and athletic stadiums.
I saw residence halls, the football stadium, two fine-dining restaurants, and more. There’s a hotel for you to work in possibly or your family to stay in, a video archive, and a movie theater. Whatever interests you, High Point has it. The ratio of Faculty to Students at High Point University is 15:1, so you will not just be a number. Parents, did you know that 99% of HPU graduates are employed or enrolled in graduate school within 180 days of graduation? The most popular major is Business/Marketing.
The average incoming GPA for High Point is 3.4. While HPU remains test-optional, if you choose to submit a test score, the average incoming scores are 25 for the ACT and range from 1100 to 1300 for the SAT.
