Fins Up With Nova Southeastern University

At Nova Southeastern University (NSU), they say “Fins Up!” offers a variety of dual degree programs across different disciplines to allow students to pursue two degrees concurrently.  Not many schools offer this opportunity. These programs allow students to integrate their interests across different fields and enhance their academic and professional skills. Some examples of dual degree programs offered at NSU include:

Dual Degrees

A JD/MBA (Juris Doctor/Master of Business Administration): This allows students to earn both a Juris Doctor degree from NSU’s Shepard Broad College of Law and a Master of Business Administration degree from the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship.

Secondly, a DPT/MPH (Doctor of Physical Therapy/Master of Public Health): This dual degree program combines clinical training in physical therapy with a focus on public health principles and practices. This is through NSU’s College of Health Care Sciences and Osteopathic Medicine.

There’s also a DO/MBA (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine/Master of Business Administration): Students in this program can earn both a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from NSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine and a Master of Business Administration degree from the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship.

A PharmD/MBA (Doctor of Pharmacy/Master of Business Administration integrates pharmacy education with business administration, preparing students for careers in pharmaceutical management and administration, offered through NSU’s College of Pharmacy and H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship.

Support for Students

The Office of Academic Support offers services to help neurodivergent students succeed in their coursework. These may include tutoring, study skills workshops, academic coaching, and specialized academic programs tailored to their needs.

  1. Peer Support Networks: NSU encourages the formation of peer support networks and student organizations so that neurodivergent students can connect with others who share similar experiences and challenges. These networks can provide valuable social support and a sense of community for neurodivergent students.
  2. Sensory-Friendly Spaces: NSU may offer sensory-friendly spaces on campus designed to accommodate the needs of neurodivergent students, such as quiet study areas, sensory rooms, and other environments that minimize sensory overload.
  3. Training and Awareness: NSU provides training and awareness programs for faculty, staff, and students to promote understanding and inclusion of neurodivergent individuals in the university community. This may include workshops, seminars, and educational materials on topics related to neurodiversity and inclusion.

By offering comprehensive support services, accommodations, and a supportive campus environment, Nova Southeastern University aims to empower neurodivergent students to thrive academically, socially, and personally during their time at the university.

NSU was a pleasant surprise on my tour and should be worthwhile. The average incoming GPA for NSU is 3.6, and it remains test-optional. The most popular major on campus is nursing. The student-faculty ratio is 18:1. To learn more, go to https://www.nova.edu/index.html
