Visiting Marquette University

Marquette University, a private, Catholic Jesuit institution located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was my favorite stop on the recent IECA “Beer & Cheese” tour, which visited colleges and universities in both Wisconsin and Illinois. It was initially established as Marquette College in 1881. Today, it hosts over 80 majors. Marquette has many reasons to be proud. They are in the top 20% of national universities. That’s not all. Marquette is ranked sixth nationally for job placement and in the top 60 for best value. With a 13:1 student-to-faculty ratio, connections matter at Marquette. The concept of “cura personalis,” or care for the person, is a hallmark of Ignatian spirituality, where teachers establish personal relationships with their students. Both the students and staff mentioned how this resonates in their daily interactions with each other, as it did with me in my experience at a Jesuit university. It’s no surprise that Marquette is ranked at the top in community service.

For students who want or need additional support, visit On Your Marq (OYM). This program is designed to help neurodivergent students become acclimated to college life at Marquette University. This is achieved in a six-tier process: executive function support, academic support, mental health, peer support, career support,  and administrative support

Whether it’s the College of Nursing achieving a perfect NCLEX passing rate for its nursing graduates or the campus coming together for a monthly walk with Blue, Marquette’s community support dog, housed in the campus police department. I had the chance to meet Blue. He’s a good boy!

The average GPA for Marquette is a 3.7. Marquette remains a test-optional school. There are several ways to visit, either in person, virtually with your admissions counselor, or at an information session. Marquette offers both merit-based and need-based aid, which can be found on the website.
